Spring Time Sickness

Well Hello There!

I know that I have not kept up with my blogging endeavors as I usually would, but I've been hit. Yep, hit with the spring time sickness. Every year when the Bradford Pear trees bloom my allergies go haywire. Usually a week or so of Mucinex and Zyrtec will do the trick and this year I thought it would be the same, but boy was I wrong.

A few days before we left for Wind Ensemble tour I was feeling my spring time sickness starting to come about. I started a Mucinex/Zyrtec regimen and I started to feel better. We left for tour in Texas and when we came back I was so exhausted I took a four nap, only to wake up to eat something and then went back to sleep for the rest of the night. The rest of the weekend I just rested and tried to regain my energy. On Monday when I went to class I felt rejuvenated and ready to get stuff done. By Monday night though, I started to feel bad. I had trouble falling asleep because I was snotty and had a cough. By Tuesday morning, I was feeling rough. I had a really gross cough and sore throat. This continued for the next few days and it just kept getting worse. I continued to get worse of a sore throat and each morning when I woke up I felt absolutely miserable. At first everything was just kind of located in my throat, but Thursday night we had a Wind Ensemble concert and playing my trumpet kind of loosened everything up and made my nose snotty and the drainage start to go into my ears the next day. I went to the campus doctor and he he thankfully said that I don't have strep or anything like that. Just a whole lot of drainage. So I'm taking a Z pack and some Mucinex and hoping that that will do the trick. If one concert to loosen all this crud up wasn't bad enough, I had to do recordings for Wind Ensemble's next cd and so I had to play my trumpet for five hours yesterday and two today. let's just say everything is runny. I'm just ready to feel better again and to not have drainage running down my throat and out of my ears. Hopefully this medicine, some rest, and a lot of orange juice will get the job done in the next few days so I will be healthy and happy for my spring break trip to the beach with AA!

Spring Break!

Now that I have mentioned my spring break trip, I realized that I haven't written about it yet! AA and I have had quit the experience trying to decide what to do for spring break this year. First we had plans to go to Washington D.C. with her parents, but after the fire at the strip where their gun store was (the gun store just experienced smoke and water damage, thankfully the fire didn't actually get to the ammo and guns) we knew that it would be best not to spend so much money for the trip. We then decided that a good way to save money would be to just do a local Arkansas trip. We thought about staying in a cabin a little ways away from her house and do outdoorsy things like hiking. AA's dad didn't think that would be very fun for us and knew that the cabins would be taken up. That being said, he decided to generously give us some money to go wherever we wanted to. So, that being said, AA and I decided that we are going to drive down to Seaside, Florida for a few days! We are going to stay in a cute little bed and breakfast in Seagrove and go into Seaside for restaurants, shops, and other fun things! I'm super excited to go on this adventure and can't wait to see what the beach will have in store for us! Stay tuned for pictures and a big post to encapsulate our trip! We just have to make it through one more week of school/midterms and then I get to go home and then off to the beach!

Also, expect pictures of two very exciting changes coming in my life soon, I won't give any hints but just know that something different is coming!

Guilty Pleasures

Top Guilty Pleasures

Everyone has guilty pleasures right? Most of my guilty pleasures, I don't actually feel guilty about, but I think to other people they are seen as things to be guilty about. So, without further ado, I give you my top "guilty" pleasures.

1. RuPaul's Drag Race

Everything about this show gives me life. I absolutely love the fact that this show is an unconventional way of showing that being a drag queen is a lifestyle. People actually get paid to perform as drag queens all over the world. I completely support men dressing as women and performing on a stage and that is something that a lot of people don't agree with me about. I understand that God made men to be men and women to be women. However, I am also extremely supportive of people doing what makes them happiest. You can tell that each of these queens in the show live for what they do and love every minute of it. With my knack for fashion, I love to watch the immense skill of each queen on the show as they give it their all with risky fashion choices and dramatic do's. I have a ton of respect for how hard these queens work at what they do and I'm thankful for all of the laughs and inspiration I get from this show.

2. Avoiding Homework

Ok this one I am actually guilty about. I seriously procrastinate my homework so much on the weekends. I'm pretty good about maintaining a schedule during the week, because I have to so I don't go insane. Therefore, when it comes to the weekend, I know I have 3 days to get my stuff done, so I pretty much just put it off until the very last minute. I love to just take the time to catch up on sleep, watch HGTV, and think about things other than the speech, 2 midterms, a concert, and recording sessions that I have to make it through this coming week (yes, I actually have to do all of those things this week.) I usually regret wasting the whole weekend on myself, but it truly is the only time when I get to take a step back from my busy life and just chill.

3. Getting My Nails Done

I LOVE getting my nails done. I feel so much more feminine and ladylike with a nice manicure. That being said, the reason I feel guilty about manicures is knowing that I could paint my own nails with the dozens of nail polishes that I have at home instead of spending any where from $15-40 on my nails. Being in college has made me reconsider a lot of things that I spend money on and I realized just how much I spend on getting my nails done. I prefer shellac to acrylic nails, just because they don't damage your nails as bad, but you have to get them redone every 2 weeks and the money really racks up.

4. Planning My Dream House/Life

I absolutely love almost all of the shows on HGTV and so I find myself scrolling through Pinterest looking at kitchens, bedrooms, wedding dresses, decor, and so many other aesthetic aspects of my future. I think as girls get older we all start to dream of our future lives and what we think/expect them to be like. The reason I feel guilty about this is that by the time I do buy a house, get married, and have kids, trends and styles will change, so I constantly worry that I waste a lot of time saving things that in a few years I will absolutely hate or that won't be realistic/reasonable. Plus, a lot of the considering I do is only one half of the bargain. The person that I marry may have very different dreams and plans for their dream house, children, etc. There will be a lot of things that have to be thought about when there are two brains working together instead of just one.

5. Sweets

I think that I have a never-ending sweet tooth. I am always craving chocolate or something sweet. This makes me feel guilty because I am trying to adopt a healthy eating lifestyle and I will be doing so good and then I can't resist the urge to get some candy or get a raspberry sammie from Dr. Jack's. I have realized that if I don't keep junk food and sweets in the dorm, it makes it a lot easier not to give in. I've got to train my body to be satisfied with a treat every now and then and not need something every time I have a craving.

6. Pajama Pants

I have a weird obsession with pajama bottoms. I don't know how it started or why I developed this love of pajama bottoms, but I have an abundance of them. Every year I get at least one new pair for Christmas and I think that I have some pairs that are at least 6 or 7 years old. At home I used to have an entire drawer dedicated to pj pants. I didn't bring all of my pajama bottoms to college with me, but I'm sure that if I did I would have at least a whole drawer full, maybe more. I don't really feel guilty about this pleasure of mine, I just really love pajama bottoms.

7. Victoria's Secret Undies

I think I am slightly more obsessed with undies from Victoria's Secret than I am with pajama pants. I probably have somewhere close to 35 or 40 pairs of them actually. I know it sounds really materialistic and picky, but I really only like VS panties. They are the most comfortable and long-lasting for my lifestyle. My favorite style is the bikini. They are just like the traditional undies but with really cute patterns and super comfort. I feel a little bit guilty about how expensive they are, but I typically only buy them when they are having the 7 for $27.50 sale.

So there you have my guiltiest of guilty pleasures. Comment below what your most guilty pleasures are! ~Em

Dream Husband??

BEST TOPIC EVER!!!

So in the big, huge list of  blog topics that I found on Pinterest, I found this super fun topic. "In a fantasy world, forget about spouses and loves, if you could fall in love with a movie or tv character, name  5 you would choose. Not the actors but the movie characters." I love this topic because it is so fandom-esque and "nerdly" as my mom would call it. Everyone has their favorite tv show characters and so who wouldn't love to get to choose their favorites! So without further ado, here are my top 5 picks (in no particular order.)

1. Sam Winchester

Ok so not only is Sam a hottie mchot hot, but he is just freaking gorgeous. I could go on for days about why Sam is such a lovable character. He puts family before everything, he is brilliant, and when he speaks Latin, your heart just melts. I love that even though Sam is the younger brother of the Winchesters, he is generally the one that holds down the fort when it comes to making smart decisions. Sam always wants to do his best to save more people than kill (it's Supernatural, yes that's a viable and valid reason to love him.) Even though Sam fell off the path of goodness a few times, he was still a lovable character with no soul, when he was possessed, and when everything in the world seemed to be dragging him down.

2. Captain Jack Sparrow

The key thing that I love about Captain Jack is one simple word. Pirate. Of course any girl who adores mermaids is going to want to fall in love with a scandalous and sleazy pirate. There's just something about the confidence and swagger of a man with a broken compass and a bottle of rum in hand. I love his quirky personality and crude jokes, his sly remarks, and his perfect use of eyeliner. Captain Jack Sparrow, I salute you. A pirate's life is certainly for me.

3. Caleb Rivers
Caleb from Pretty Little Liars is so freaking cute. He is great with technology, well a hacker most of the time, an awesome friend, but most importantly, the most loyal and amazing boyfriend in the show. No matter what kind of fit Hanna is throwing in any particular episode, Caleb is ALWAYS there for her. He stays the night with her when she is traumatized (not to sleep with her but just to be there for comfort so she can sleep) and he always reminds Hanna to stay true to herself and not worry about the rest of the crazy in the world. He is so lovable for giving awesome advice and just being there for each of the main characters when they need him.

4. Finn the Human

So this one is kind of different from the rest considering Finn is a cartoon character, but for as long as I have been watching Adventure Time, I have loved Finn. Even though his character is young, I admire his bravery, silliness, and love of true friendship. Also, being the "word nerd" that I am, I love Finn's use of silly vocabulary. He is adorable and super lovable. Oh and his best friend is a dog so that gains him like a million brownie points.

5. King Francis of France

Francis is super super cute and his accent makes him even more admirable. Francis is lovable to me because of his natural-born leadership skills, the pride he has in his country, and the passion that he has for everything he does.  Francis can be kind of wishy-washy, as can all of the characters in Reign, but in the end, he always does what will benefit his country or Mary, Queen of Scots (his wife.) He is smart and talented, and quite the charmer though having watched the show for 3 seasons, I'm not sure I would want to be a part of royal life. Bad things are always bound to happen at court.

So there you have my top 5 tv/movie characters that I would choose to love! Good thing I got to pick 5 and not just one because that was harder than I expected! ~E
