December Reads and Books I Got for Christmas

Yay Books!

Since I'm on winter break from school, I have definitely been able to catch up on some pleasure reading! So far I have read six books since being home and all of them have been pretty good! I also asked for/received several books and gift cards to order books. I am getting 13 books in the mail soon from thriftbooks.com and I'm getting some from Amazon for school. So first I will share with you my ratings of the books I've already read and then show you the books I got for Christmas/ordered.  ~Em

Not Another "New Year, New Me" Post

Welcome to a New Year, Boys and Squirrels!

I honestly can't believe that a new year is upon us! It feels like 2017 flew by! There were some ups, there were some downs, and overall it was a fairly decent year. I think for this post I will share with y'all some of my favorite moments and some lessons I have learned from this past year.  I will also fill you guys in on what happened for Christmas this year! I'm going to make a separate post about the books I read in December and the books I got for Christmas!

In January of 2017 I did the Bloggin' New Year challenge and that really taught me a lot about myself! I was forced to talk about myself a lot and I it helped me to remember more of the details of that month. I loved blogging consistently and felt proud for making myself post more about myself.

February brought on my first outfit challenge which was a whole lot of fun! I definitely want to do another one of those this year!

In March I got to become a member of the Ouachita Student Foundation. I also got to become a member of the International Sociology Honor Society.

In April I got to be in the pit for our school's production of Fiddler on the Roof which was an interesting experience.

During the Academic Awards Banquet in May I was awarded the Outstanding Junior Award in the Sociology field and started my long summer of reading more for pleasure! Also my younger sister, A, graduated from high school!

June was a bit of a crazy month. I read a ton of books, started my internship at OBHAW, and turned 20 years old!

In July I continued and finished my OBHAW internship and read even more books. I also went on a beach trip with my sisters A and T.

August was the start of my senior year! We also had a pool party to watch the eclipse!

In September we had five new pledges for SAI and had a wonderful time dressing up for TWIRP this year.

October, while being my favorite month, was literally the most stressful and hectic month of my life. I did a Halloween outfit challenge which was a whole lot of fun and I got to go to the club with my friends for Halloween! The band won an award at Tiger Tunes this year (finally!) I also got elected as president of SAI after our former president resigned. AND I finally got my industrial pierced.

In November we initiated our five new members to SAI. I marched in my last football game at the Battle of the Ravine and we had my favorite repertoire in Wind Ensemble this semester that we have had yet!

December brought the end to my last fall semester at OBU. AA and I went to the debutante ball again and celebrated her 21st birthday! Then we had lots of Christmas celebrations because of my split families.

Christmas 2017

As usual, we had many celebrations for Christmas. We woke up at my dad's house on Christmas Eve this year to open presents. Some of the cool stuff I got from them was the beautiful illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, a thriftbooks.com giftcard (which I have definitely already spent and will share in my next post which books I ordered), and some great stickers from redbubble.com. For the rest of that day we had a lazy day and just watched tv/movies and played a game. Then we went to my mom's house and woke up there on Christmas Day. Some of my favorite gifts my mom got me were books, a set of pots and pans for my apartment after I graduate, and new Disney pins, which was their way of surprising us with a trip to Disney World this upcoming June! If everything works out well, we are going to be there on my 21st birthday! After that we went to brunch at my step-grandparents house and opened presents there. This past Saturday we had Christmas in Northwest Arkansas with my dad's family. We were supposed to have a themed Christmas like we have for the past seven years, but my aunt that was hosting this year's got really sick and couldn't host so we did it at my other aunt's house and did it normal style. My aunt did really cool gifts where she got each of us girls a gift for each of the senses. Then on Sunday we were supposed to have Christmas with my mom's family but a bunch of them got sick so we just had my cousins and aunt over, which was still a lot of fun. We also did our usual boring New Years where we watch Ghost Adventures and we played a new game. Of course, it wouldn't be New Years without sparkling white grape juice either.

Like I said, it was overall a pretty decent year. I got a ton of awesome opportunities, I learned a lot about myself, and I am excited to see where this year takes me. ~Em
