February Reading Wrap-Up!

February Reading Wrap-Up

This last month was a great reading month for me honestly. I had three 5-Star books! I started an awesome new series and read two books for school as well. I'm currently reading one book for school, an e-book, and listening to an audiobook but I will talk about those in my March wrap-up. Without further ado, here are the six books I read in February! ~Em

Summary: This is a collection of notes that Marcus Aurelius wrote to himself. They are observations and life lessons that are profound and insightful. I had to read this book for my Senior Seminar class and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a quick read that everyone can take something from. Rating: 4/5

Summary: The Hate U Give is the story of Starr Carter, an African-American teen trying to fit in at her private school that is predominantly white. After a party one night, Starr witnesses her childhood friend, Khalil, get shot by a police officer and killed, when he was unarmed. Starr has to learn about seeking justice and standing up for herself and for her friend. This is such a relevant and powerful novel and it had a ton of Harry Potter references throughout so I thoroughly enjoyed it. P.S. This is the first audiobook I have ever listened to and the narrator did a WONDERFUL job. Rating: 5/5

Summary: (I listened to this book on audiobook too.) Callie is a siren with a dark past. To try to rid herself of her past deeds, she makes a deal with The Bargainer. The thing about The Bargainer is that he never lets deals go without being repaid. After her first deal with The Bargainer, Callie quickly racks up 322 deals and knows she will eventually have to pay them back. I am not normally a huge fan of romance, especially smutty romance, but I loved the relationship in this book. The author could have taken the route where she wrote a smutty urban fantasy book with some action and not very clear lines of consent in the relationship, but she didn't! Laura Thalassa did such a phenomenal job at developing a relationship, making sexy times are consensual, and making you fall in love with these characters and as they do. Rating: 5/5

Summary: This is the second book in The Bargainer series and I also listened to it on audiobook. I'm not going to go into detail about what this book is about because it would spoil the series, but just know I am still loving this series. I didn't like this one quite as much as the first book but I am excited for the last one in the series to come out! Rating: 4/5

Summary: This is the second book I read for school in February. It talks about different theories dealing with death and what different authors have described death like in various literary works throughout history. I loved the different references to poetry, plays, and novels, but over all the book was kind of wordy and I just felt meh about it. Rating: 3/5

Summary: Charlie is going into high school and just wants to fit in. Especially after the only person he was really able to talk to commits suicide. Charlie befriends a couple of seniors, Patrick and Sam, and ensues and many adventures that cause him to learn more about himself and about growing up. I've been wanting to read this book for years and just got to it and I loved it. I loved that Charlie was really struggling to fit in and that this book was told through letters. I need to rewatch the movie now and see how it compares! Rating: 5/5
