Small Life Update

Life Update

As usual, I have become a victim of making promises I can't keep. It's been two months since I last posted and honestly, it's just because I haven't really been doing anything "update-worthy." I'm wrapping up my second semester of grad school, I have been working hard at work, and enjoying life as an apartment dweller, and that's pretty much it. Here's a short list of things that have happened since my last update post, which may have been in January? I can't remember.

  • I tasked myself with doing four exhibits at work over four months. Having never done an exhibit before, this was quite the challenge! For February, I did a Black History Month exhibit, March was Women's History Month, April was "Celebrate Our Authors Month," and May is Military Appreciation Month. Each of the exhibits features important people in Ouachita's history. It has been a learning experience for sure and I am slightly burnt on doing exhibits, but it's rewarding knowing that people who come into the library will get to see the small slivers of our university's history that I researched and displayed in the exhibits.
I know you can't get a great look at the contents and the overhead light really doesn't help the view much but here is the display case with my exhibits!

  • I got back into the dating world...and back out again. And you know what? I'm okay with that. After over two years of not dating, I ventured onto a dating app and started dating someone for a little over a month, and it didn't work out, but I am happy that I got back out there! I can move forward from here with new lessons gained from this experience that I didn't have before.

  • I am half-way through grad school! I only have one more assignment to complete for this semester and then I will officially be halfway through! I will be completing my degree in August of 2020 and this next year is going to be full of exciting courses that are going to help toward my dream of becoming a YA Librarian, including Youth Programs and Multicultural Literature for Children and Young Adults. I also came to the realization the other day that I will be the first person in my immediate family to earn a Masters degree and y'all that is SO empowering. I have been so blessed with a supportive family and a great mentor and I am proud to be able to say that I will have a Masters degree at 23. God is good y'all.

  • I absolutely LOVE living by myself in my apartment. As many of y'all know, I'm pretty independent and living alone just works well for me. I don't have to function off of anyone else's schedule but my own and I thrive off of that. It has been a big help in my dietary restrictions with not eating dairy, because I don't have to inconvenience other people and I can cook whatever I want and eat whenever I want. Being only five minutes from work is major bonus too! My main complaint about my apartment is that my toaster sets off the smoke detector EVERY STINKING TIME I USE IT! But hey, if that's the biggest problem, I am content.

Well, that's really all the updating I have to do! After I finish this last assignment for one of my courses I will have the whole summer off of school and I will be reading for fun like nobody's business! And also focusing on work for a bit, but you know, I just get excited about reading. Tomorrow I will be posting my March/April Reading Wrap Up post, so stay tuned for that! ~Em
