I Used to Live in a Haunted House!

I Grew Up in a Haunted House 😨

I know you guys a probably thinking this is just click-bait and it's just some silly story that I made up, but I kid you not, the house I used to live in is haunted. I know that it sounds crazy but my mom and I absolutely had some paranormal experiences in that house and so I'm here to tell you the tale of them!

The biggest thing that doesn't make sense about the story I'm about to tell is the fact that our house was built shortly after I was born and no one else had lived in the house before us. We lived in the house for 13 years and didn't ever experience anything strange until probably the year before we moved out. One night that year, I was probably 11 or 12 years old, I thought I heard someone typing on the computer, which was in the living room. It wasn't uncommon for my mom to be up late playing Pool on Yahoo or chatting with friends, so I didn't really think anything of it. I got up out of bed and peeked out of my room to see who was at the computer. My bedroom was in a hallway and from my door the computer screen was facing me in the far corner of the living room and so the chair was facing away from me. When I looked out at the computer desk, I definitely saw someone there, with long, dark hair and they had what looked like my mom's cell phone held up to their ear, so instinctively I thought it was my mom and went back to bed. Not very long after that, I was woken up by the sound of the computer chair rolling back, like someone had scooted it back to get out of it. I got back out of bed and peered around the door frame of my room. I was kind of freaked out when I saw that the chair was now facing me and no one was in it. I scurried across the hall to my mom's bedroom and woke her up to ask if she had just been on the computer. She was kind of annoyed that I woke her up and told me that no, she didn't get on the computer late at night anymore. I was kind of shaken up by her answer and she told me to go ask my sister, A, if she had just been on the computer. I went into A's bedroom and she was sound asleep, but I woke her up too and asked if she had been on  the computer. She groggily told me no, that she had been asleep for hours. I was really freaked out at this point because I was certain that I had seen someone sitting in the computer chair talking on the phone. I sneaked back to my room and struggled to fall back asleep. The next day I told my mom more about what I had seen and it kind of freaked her out and confused her because I had seen the person using her phone. I couldn't stop thinking about seeing the person. After a few weeks, nothing else had happened and so we kind of started joking about me seeing this person, so we started calling her Betty.

Maybe a month or so after I had first seen Betty, A and I were at my dad's house and so my mom was home alone. She was going back to what we called the Hall Bathroom to feed and water the dog when all of a sudden, a small mirror that was on our entertainment center in the living room flew across the room right as she had walked past it. My mom was incredibly freaked out because she knew she hadn't bumped into the entertainment center or anything like that. When she went over to pick the mirror up, she was really surprised to find that it had not shattered. It was perfectly intact. That same week, my mom had gotten up early to take a shower before she went to work and had to go into the laundry room to get a towel. Our "laundry room" was basically a large closet for the washer and dryer in a hallway in the kitchen. Across from the laundry room was the door to the garage, which had a window in it. As my mom walked past to get to the dryer, she just happened to glance out the window into the garage and almost lost it. In my mom's car sat a lady with long, dark hair covering most of her face. She was sitting in the driver's seat with her arms stretched forward onto the steering wheel. The blue light from my mom's phone charger in her car that would normally only shine when the phone was plugged in was illuminating the whole car in an eerie glow. I'm pretty sure my mom screamed and ran back to her bedroom where she called her boyfriend at the time (who is now her husband.) She told him that she was not going to work until he came and checked out her car to make sure no one was in it. When he got to the house, no one was in the car, the garage, or any other part of the house. When A and I came back from our dad's house and she told me about these experiences, it sounded very much like the person who I had seen in the computer chair. We were all especially creeped out for several months and talked about our experiences with Betty all the time.

None of us really knows what happened for sure but we like to tell the story of Betty the ghost from the first house I lived in. Now anytime something unexplainable happens we blame Betty and it's a running joke in our family. After this experience, many of my friends were afraid to come to my house for fear that Betty would strike again. Also since this experience, I have loved watching shows like Paranormal State and Ghost Adventures and this past summer we even went on a Paranormal Tour in Branson that was an awesome experience!

I don't know if any of you believe in ghosts or not, but with my experiences and the experiences of other people I know, I definitely believe in the paranormal and know not to mess around with things like Ouija boards, which can open dark doorways and get you in a lot of trouble. Anyway, that's my ghost story and I hope you enjoyed it! ~Em
