The Best Movies Ever!
Most of you who know me probably already know what my favorite movies are because I get REALLY excited when someone else talks about them or when I get to watch them with people who haven't ever seen them, but I'm dedicating this blog post to my two favorite movies of all time.
Beetlejuice
For those of you who didn't know that this was my absolute favorite movie of all time, you are probably thinking, "Seriously? Why this one? Of all movies?" I know, I know, it's quite strange and honestly, I cannot tell you where my fascination with this movie came from. However, I do know that I absolutely love it. I probably saw this movie for the first time when I was five or six and for some reason, it never scared me. Of course I didn't understand a lot of the crude jokes and things like that when I was younger, but I have always been obsessed with this movie. I love Tim Burton movies in general so that's a good indication of where the fascination began. I remember my favorite scene in this movie, when I was younger, was the dinner table possession scene. I thought it was absolutely hilarious that they weren't able to control themselves singing Day-O. I still usually get up and dance whenever that scene comes on. I also really love Lydia's character. It was so cool to me that she was able to Barbara and Adam as ghosts when no one else could and that she believed they could help change her life. The story of this movie is just so different than anything else I have seen and I am a huge fan. I have seen this movie hundreds of times and never grow tired of it.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Ok so this is the most underrated Disney movie of all time. What's that you say? "I didn't know that movie was a Disney movie!" Well guess what? It is! This is my favorite Disney movie and second favorite movie of all time. Again, it's another Tim Burton movie (go figure) and it is wonderful. The best part about this movie is that I can watch it on both Halloween (my favorite holiday) and Christmas and not get any crap for it! This is another one of those movies that I never get tired of watching and again, I have seen this movie hundreds of times. I appreciate the amount of time and effort that went into this movie for all of the clay-mation to be so beautiful (in a creepy way.) Though this movie is could probably be pretty spooky for children, I have never been scared by it, and that's likely because Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I have always loved watching the vampires, werewolves, and other monsters of Halloweentown. My absolute favorite part of this movie is the score. Danny Elfman is one of my favorite composers that Disney uses. I'm pretty sure he wrote some (if not all) of the music for The Little Mermaid, which is my other favorite Disney movie and I just really love his work.
Y'all, I love these movies so much that I have plans to get a sleeve or half-sleeve tattoo of a mashup of these two movies. It would have characters and scenes from both movies interlaced and I am SUPER pumped about it. I'm not going to start on it until I a) get a job and make sure that it's okay for me to have visible tattoos and b) have enough money so that I don't have to wait super long periods of time in between sessions to get it finished. I hope that in the future my children love these movies as much as me because I will always cherish them! ~Em
